Automation – The Gift And The Curse!

Hello Guys,

So #TechTuesday returns and today we would look at the concept of ‘Automation’. In fact, what comes to mind when you think of the term? Any ideas? Any synonymous words? Or is it just some fancy word some English guru or even some scientist came up with?

Automation has been defined by Wikipedia as the technology by which a process or procedure is performed with minimal human assistance. As much as possible everyone wants to carry out their activities with minimal ease and speed. Basically, you want to achieve the best results in the shortest possible time. Why would you walk for 6 hours to cover 10 kilometres when you could cover the same distance in about 6 minutes by driving? Automation! A public address system would communicate to a crowd in a stadium with little effort and achieve more than a thousand people shouting in the same stadium. Automation!

Over the next few weeks, we would do a series on this very subject and how much we have come to rely on this concept in our world today. We would also relate it to our day to day lives. Of course, we would also look at the downsides of automation as well – call it the curse of automation (or is it?) and we would explore this subject further with the practical solutions we have developed as well. You sure don’t want to miss this interesting series.

For now, let’s talk about the 1st Africa Data Protection Conclave. We have been on this matter for quite some time now and ladies and gentlemen, it is my honour to announce to you that the event is finally here. In exactly two days, we go live. Thursday, 15th and Friday, 16th October 2020 are two special days to look forward to as Africa stands still and stakeholders from all across the continent engage in relevant conversations that would chart a new course for Africa on the subject of data protection. We sure would have more to talk about next week after the event. Click HERE to register if you haven’t. Thank me later!

Still on the subject of data protection, remember you can carry out your organization’s self-audit and assessments ahead of your statutory data protection compliance audits with NITDA using our solution, iDAP. Visit: http://www.idap.ndpr.ng. Another gift of automation by the way. Lol.

Have you experienced a data breach recently or at any time? Let’s help you get the needed closure or justice. Use our Report Data Breach platform at http://www.rdb.ndpr.ng.

Tighten your seatbelts, fellas! It’s going to be an interesting next set of weeks!
