At the National Tax Forum 2026 held at the University of Lagos on July 2 and 3, 2026, our CEO, Bidemi Daniel Olumide (BD), made the case for what he called the 5th Pillar of Nigeria’s modern tax architecture.
Four pillars are already built and operational: Digital Identity (NIN/BVN), Payments Rail (NIBSS), Rev360, and mandatory e-Invoicing. Each is a remarkable achievement. But as BD argued : “Infrastructure without interconnection is incomplete.”
The 5th Pillar is an API-led ecosystem, validated, accredited connections between the NRS’s and other national tax platforms on the one hand, and the private sector platforms where Nigerian businesses actually operate: payroll software, accounting packages, ERP systems, fintechs, on the other hand. The taxpayer should never have to enter the same data in two places. Compliance should be a by-product of doing business, not a separate manual burden.
BD called on the Joint Tax Board (JTB) to lead this charge: publishing open API standards, expanding the accreditation model beyond e-invoicing, and creating the regulatory conditions (including a possible regulatory sandbox) for the ecosystem to scale.
Taxtech is not just an advocate for this vision. We are proof of concept. As an NRS-licensed accredited e-invoicing Access Point Provider and Systems Integrator — and a licensed Data Protection Compliance Organisation (DPCO) with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission since 2019 — we have been building this bridge since 2015.
